well, I think you’re wrong! I’ve seen the polyfest videos, and where are ”French polynesia” and Hawaii in all this? A unity? I only see NZ, the Cooks, Samoans, and Tongangs…that’s not a unity between the islands, when another part are been left out! And for a rarotongang teacher to say that the way the tahititans move their hips is a no-no, and that their style are the proper way, is disrespectful.

Honestly, the Hawaiian and French Polynesian communities in New Zealand aren’t as large as the other Pacific Islands- meaning, they haven’t a group of “teenagers” to enter or if they do, they just haven’t got around to it. Yes, I do agree that the Rarotongan Kaumatua has no right to make such a comment, but! amongst other groups it is still a unity as nothing stops the Hawaiian or French Polynesians from participating.

I agree with terii. I love both cultures, and I think the cooks drumming and music are great, sometimes better than tahitian, but when it comes to dancing, i have to say that Tahiti has come along way, and their ori has evolved! in compareson to the cooks style, Tahitian ori seem more free, more sensual, and also sexual…natural, as it should be! more variations when it comes the different steps or moves they execute.
